Jeremy Corbyn is grasping for power, as he hopes to close the gap between Labour and the Conservatives with one week to go before polls open in the 2019 election. The leader of the opposition is relying on the support of his most loyal fans, and his family members are amongst them.
How many children does Jeremy Corbyn have?
Jeremy Corbyn has three sons, Benjamin, aged 32, Seb, 27, and 25-year-old Thomas “Tommy” Corbyn.
Benjamin Corbyn is a successful football coach, a specialist in Youth Development at Watford Football Club who has led junior players into the Premier League team of the same name.
Mr Corbyn’s middle-child, Seb Corbyn, followed his father into politics and helped the Labour leader with his campaign in 2015 before becoming a researcher for Labour Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell.
Critics of Mr Corbyn accused him of nepotism after Mr McDonnell promoted Seb to Chief of Staff, but the Shadow Chancellor insisted merit drove the decision.
Jeremy Corbyn’s youngest son, Thomas, is also a keen follower of his father, and he regularly tweets in his favour on Twitter.
He is also a business owner and opened London’s first hemp shop and cafe the ‘National Hemp Service’ earlier this year.
All three children are the product of the Labour leader’s second marriage to Claudia Bracchiata.
Before he met Claudia Bracchiata, Jeremy Corbyn was married to Jane Chapman.
The couple were married for five years, from 1974 to 1979, when Mr Corbyn was 25 and Ms Chapman 24.
Ms Chapman is now a professor of Communications at Lincoln University and said she nearly voted for her ex-husband’s opposition Yvette Cooper to take the helm of the Labour Party in 2015.
Speaking to the Telegraph, she said: “I had to weigh up how important it was to me to have a female leader. I felt if I hadn’t voted for him I wouldn’t have been true to myself and to my own past. I don’t want to run away from my past.”
Jeremy Corbyn’s current wife is Laura Alvarez, whom he married in 2013.
The Mexican businesswoman, 49, rarely appears alongside her husband, keeping her private life to herself.
However, she once famously declined a dinner invitation from Queen Elizabeth II.
According to the Daily Telegraph, both Mr Corbyn and his wife were invited to attend a banquet hosted by the Queen and Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2015, but Ms Alvarez opted against appearing.
